Sports Therapy

This can be divided up into two areas:

Pre-event This is where the client is involved in an activity and needs massage for either pre-event to loosen up and heat the muscles and get the circulation going to help prevent strains caused by over exertion on cold muscles. This tends to be a fairly vigorous massage and is usually done within 30 minutes of the client participating in the activity. This can be expensive as it usually requires the therapist travelling to meet the client at the event.

Post-event This follows on from an activity where the client has had a significant degree of exertion when the massage will be less vigorous than the pre-event, again the objective would be to maintain the blood circulation to the muscles being used. The massage is tailored to loosen up the muscle groups in question and delay or prevent the build up of lactic acid in the muscles, which leads to tightening and soreness of the muscles. This usually happens when a new activity is done or following a lay off from an activity.

This can either be done immediately after the event following the activity or up to 2 days after the activity.
